Whereas most research into marriages have concentrated on why couples split, this research concentrates on why they stick together. Using families where one of the adults is away from home for much of the year, and a new way of looking at human behaviour, valuable conclusions have been arrived at. Many occupations and a wide geographical scatter of the sample add to the interest. The society in which we live is regarded as as much part of the environment as the natural or man made environment and we react to it in order to maintain or improve upon the status quo in respect if five fields, the economic, emotional, intellectual, physical and social. In order to achieve this we must cooperate with our partners on the basis of common constructs about that environment.
